Naked Flowers Art Exhibition
Japan's hugely popular Naked Flowers exhibition comes to Hong Kong with an immersive
journey through the world of flowers and uncover their hidden secrets. Explore colossal
flower gardens and interactive spaces, and delve into the mysteries of floral life
across eight experiential rooms, including the 'Naked Big Book' featuring original
Naked design with projection mapping and the 'Big Flower Garden' where visitors
can enjoy the fragrance of flowers, and more.
At 1881 Heritage in Tsim Sha Tsui from April 27 to October 27.
Tickets are available at $180 and $150 for child/student/senior.

Deserted Century-old Army Barracks
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Status: Dilapidated
Built in 1900s, the barracks are for accommodations of the Gurkha soldiers
and families for the nearby battery for coastal defence completed in 1903.
There is an outdoor swimming pool which has been filled-in. The site has been
deserted long before the 1997 handover. The interior has been mostly cleared.

10th Anniversary of Umbrella Movement
Thousands rally at Admiralty Occupy zone in Hong Kong, now dubbed 'Umbrella Square',
at 5:58 pm standing silently for 87 seconds, holding up umbrellas to commemorate
the firing of 87 tear gas canisters at protesters by police one month after
28 Sep 2014 at the exact time. Similar gathering are also held at Mongkok
and Causeway Bay Occupy zones.

Deserted 19th Century Mill @ Romania

Status: Dilapidated
Built in 1853, this is the first steam mill in Romania. The complex of buildings
suffered significant damage from several fires and massive thefts of scrap
metal that led to the collapse of the roof and a wall in the main body.
Today, the mill is a brick shell with industrial architectural elements,
but extremely dangerous and empty inside.

Deserted 19th Century Mansion @ Romania

Built in 1890s, the 2-storey mansion was the residence of a former mayor of
Bucharest. The house has all the windows broken, the plaster is falling off,
and the inside is a mess. The painted ceilings, the marble columns, the
sculptures are in a state of deep decay.

Deserted Theatre @ Romania

The theatre, founded in 1990, is the only gesture, pantomime and body
expression theatre in Romania. Having a young troupe of professional actors,
It was led by an actor and director with a PhD in theatre theory, graduate of
Bucharest University of Theatre and Cinematography. It was recently deserted.

The small monastery is located outside a major city in Romania.
Little information can be found about it except that it belongs
to the Caldarusani Monastery. It has been deserted for a while
and is in a sad state of disrepair.

Deserted 19th Century Beer Factory @ Romania

Established in 1895, the beer factory was producing 12,000 litres of beer daily
with only 60 workers surpassing its 2 competitors. In 20 years, it has 12
departments with 261 workers. In 1915, the owner passed away and the
eldest son took over. In 1948 the factory was nationalised under the
communist regime. After 1990 all the buildings fell into disrepair.

Deserted Century-old Casino by the Sea @ Romania

Status: Being restored
First built in 1880, the casino was demolished in 1891 and 1907, then restored in
1899 and 1917, designed in Art Nouveau style. It was used for gambling
operations for 38 years and became a major attraction for European royalties
and the elite-class. It was bombed in WWI, ravaged in WWII, and became a
wartime hospital.

in 1960. The last major repairs took place in 1986–1988, and it was
deserted until 2019. Currently, it is under renovation again, fenced in now.
The main entrance hall of Casino Ro6yale features a spectacular staircase.
Hanging above them is a large wrought iron and crystal chandeliers. Exquisite
plaster mouldings decorated the ceilings and archways.

Deserted Century-old Synagogue @ Romania

Built between 1910 and 1914, the 2-storey synagogue was designed in the Moorish
style by Adolf Linz. Of the entire synagogue, there are only 3 full walls left,
fractured diagonally. The roof was destroyed, so were the majority of
coloured glass windows. The Jewish symbol – Star of David is still intact.

Deserted 19th Century Baths @ Romania

Built in the late 19th century, the thermal bath building is of exquisite design.
At the entrance is a double height hall with a scenic fountain in the centre.
On both sides are the 2 wings of the building, each consisting of 2 long
corridors along which there are the various rooms of the spa treatments,
painted in pastel shades and interspersed with 2 small rooms decorated
with arches. The state of decay is very high.

Built in the late 19th century, the casino with its beautiful colors was
designed in a baroque style. There was a big fire around 60 years ago. The
outdoor hallways and the entrance to the bar are visually stunning.

Deserted Century-old Abattoir @ Romania

The abattoir was built between 1909 and 1912 and designed by an Italian architect.
It housed several rooms for animal slaughter, meat processing and packaging.
The main hall was equipped with 8 cranes, and at maximum capacity, over
100 employees worked here.
A large cold room could store up to 5000 animals - cows or calves, pigs, rams
or horses from deterioration for 5 to 7 days. It has been deserted for
qq decades and is in a poor state of repair.

Deserted 19th Century Mausoleum @ Romania

The mausoleum was built in the late 19th-century by a wealthy baron. It resembles
the architecture of a basilica in Hungary. A few years later, the baron and his
wife died. They were entombed in the crypts beneath the mausoleum. The
descendants struggled with difficult times and eventually emigrated to
another continent, leaving the mausoleum entrusted to the community.
It began to be used as a roman catholic place of worship. a storm in the
nineties caused major damage to the roof.

Deserted Century-old Castle @ Hungary

Status: Dilapidated
Built in the early 1900s for the newlywed couple of a Count, the castle saw
minimal use before the Count passed away and the family emigrated amidst WWII.
The local residents looted and burned part of the castle, and in 1945, some
demolition occurred. It was used by the Allies during WWII and in the 1980s,
it was used for civil defense exercises. Currently, the roof has collapsed
and it is in a dilapidated state.

Red Star Train Graveyard @ Hungary

The legendary Red Star Train (classified as MAV-424) sits in a deserted
train depot, which is the final resting place for carriages from the Nazi
and Soviet occupation, plus deteriorating locomotive artifacts.

Deserted 19th Century Military Castle @ Hungary

Status: Dilapidated
Built in the 19th Century, one of the largest barracks of the Austro-Hungarian
monarchy's military is now a deserted ruin. During World War I, it held a POW
prison. The Nazis took over during World War II. After the war, the Soviet army
moved in until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990. It was rumoured that the
troops stripped the building of any valuables they could find on the way out.

Deserted Century-old @ Hungary

Built in the early 1920s, the 500 sq metre villa is located on a 32,626 sq metre
plot of parkland. It operated as a sanatorium from the 1960s until 1989 when it
became private. In 2001, the new owner wanted to turn it into a boarding house.
Accordingly, the transformation began, but the plan was abandoned in mid-2000s.
Currently, the are signs of renovation at the attic with a modern roof. An
interesting graffiti is found at the back entrance.

Deserted Elclectic Spa @ Hungary

Status: Dilapidated
Opened in the 1977 with a 1,300-metre-deep thermal well, the eclectic spa/pool complex
in Hungary was very popular and can accommodate 890 people. The arch design of the
entrance is well done. Built up a mountain side, it offers panoramic views of the
River Danube. There is a large outdoor swimming pool. It has been deserted since
2007 and I'm surprised to see a few horses there.

Yim Liu Ha
Old street sign of Yim Liu Ha, one of the old areas in Sha Tau Kok, bordering
Shenzhen, Mainland China. Salt fields were historically farmed at Yim Liu Ha.
Around 1898, Hoklo fishermen from Chaoyang, Jieyang and Shanwei
moved to the Sha Tau Kok area and settled in Yim Liu Ha Village
At the time of the 1911 census, the population of Yim Liu Ha was 47.

Historic Shun Tak Kui
Shun Tak Kui, commonly known as Big Leung House, was built in 1934, which
took over 2 years and $20,000 to complete. Located in Shung Ching San Tsuen,
Sap Pat Heung, Yuen Long, it is a villa built by Hakka Indonesian overseas
Chinese Leung Kan-sen. It was listed as a Grade I historic building in 2009.
The mansion is a 2-house 2-storey rectangular residential building with a central
open courtyard. In 1936 and 1956 respectively, single-storey wings were added
to the left and right sides. It covers an area of over 1,000 square metres
and consists of 32 large rooms. The solid structural walls are built with lime-
mixed cement, and 2 columns support for rafters and Chinese-style
tiled sloping roof.

Coast Park Pier
Coast Par Pier is located along the Cheung Sha Wan promenade, a newly
refurbished stretch of waterfront in West Kowloon. The site is a mix
of old and new, with the pier situated in between new residential and
commercial development to the northwest and the more industrial wholesale
food market to the southeast. It is part of a larger waterfront upgrade.

Deserted Haunted Villa from 1920s
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Status: Dilapidated
Built in 1927 in Classical Revival architecture with symmetrical plan. An imposing
entrance gives access to a large central reception hall with rooms on either
side in the Palladian style. The side rooms extend to the rear as wings to
form a three-sided courtyard.
A staircase gives access to the upper floor. A classical red-brick facade featuring
white painted columns, balustrades, and window surrounds, is a style popular in
Edwardian times. A segmental pediment surrounds the projecting central bay
over the entrance porch, and a domed cupola is situated on the flat roof
behind the pediment. The first floor has shuttered windows. A European-
style fountain stands in front.
The mansion was owned by a rich Choi family. After the death of the owner in
1944, the family members moved away and the house was deserted, falling into
disrepair. It is said that 7 people were drowned there and it is haunted. Rumour
has it that during the night, people heard women screaming and crying.
It was rated as a Grade I historic building in 2007 and then Grade II in 2010.

Deserted Army Barracks from 1930s
Paper figurine funeral offerings discovered at ex-British army barracks during
"Ghost Month". There are over 40 buildings in the barracks which were built
in 1890-1939. Some of them have fireplaces. The site has been deserted long
before the 1997 handover. This block was used as a former soldiers' quarters.
The interior has been mostly cleared. It is rated a Grade II historic building.

Grass Island
Grass Island, aka Tap Mun, is a sleepy fishing village off of Sai Kung, popular
for day trips. You will find lush green meadows, crystal clear waters,
delicious seafood, urban cattle and a 400 year-old Tin Hau Temple. 1.5 hour
by ferry from Ma Liu Shui (near University Station) or 30 minutes from
Wong Shek Pier, the island is a memorable outing for city dwellers.

Deserted Century-old Bunker

Status: Dilapidated
The underground bunker is part of a battery built in 1903 for coastal defence,
probably used for ordinance storage. A vintage welding helmet mask is found
near the front gate inside the entrance. It is full of metal racks
suitable for storage. Pitch dark inside.

Deserted Village Mansion with Pipas

Status: Still standing
The 2-storey tastefully decorated mansion belonged to a vice principal of
a secondary school. Furniture and personal items, including lots of books,
personal photos, at least 3 pipas (Chinese musical string instruments)
and a Chinese sword, are scattered throughout. The first floor has a
balcony. Apparently, it has been deserted since 1992.
