Traditional Flower Billboards
A rare display of large traditional Chinese flower billboards -
part display, part advertising and part work of art - on urban
Hong Kong island. These massive billboards are erected for the
inauguration on Thursday of the new board of directors of Tung
Wah Group of Hospitals, a local charity, for 2017-2018.
These flower billboards, common during 1960s and '70s for
festivals and celebrations, is a traditional craftmanship
battling to survive Hong Kong's march of modernity. Only
a few remains who can fold paper flowers, make highly
specialised accessories, do calligraphy and climb bamboo
scaffoldings while tying strings - a fading art.
