  Exploring Century-old Pumping Station

An avid urban explorer ventures into a pumping station.

The pumping station was first built in 1904. Originally, it used steam-driven pumps to pump
raw water from a reservoir to the hillside tunnel. The water then went through an underground
water channel to a sand filtration tank for treatment. The treated water was
then supplied to the urban areas.

It is a red brick industrial building with a pitched roof of tiles supported on timber purlins
which in turn rest on metal trusses made of cast iron frames and steel tie rods.
Over the century, no major alterations were made to the roof structure. It is a Declared Monument.

  Floating Tin Hau Temple

The Floating Tin Hau Temple is the only one in Hong Kong that exists on a boat. Its mobility is
convenient for its worshippers, who are mostly fishermen. Since 1955, the Floating Tin Hau
Temple is anchored in the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter.

The Temple is located on a small wooden ship and is decorated mainly in red — the
colour of luck in Chinese culture. Aside from the goddess Tin Hau, it also hosts the Monkey King,
Suen Ng Hung. Visitors are required to cleanse their hands in a water basin with leaves
before entering. Due to its compact size, only nine visitors are allowed on board to worship
at any given time. Also, visitors must charter a sampan in order to access the ship.

It is in the process of relocation to to a plot beside Causeway Bay Fire Station for increased convenience.

uncovered a bomb-making scheme that operated out of the building, and security has
been tightened up ever since. There are also rumours that it’s haunted.

The rusting, sun-faded vintage logo on the facade serves as the only reminder of the former TV
company which was shut down on 1 April 2015.
