Orange Magpie Moth, with black spots, is one of the easier to observe daytime moth
species in Hong Kong. Adults are usually seen from early April through mid to late May.
It is seen in abundance in Pak A Village, Sai Kung.

The 2-storey mansion perches on the hillside. A wooden stairs leads to the first floor which has
a balcony. Apparently, it has been deserted since 2015. Furniture and personal items,
including numerous wine jars, many English books, decorative items, clothings, bedding, etc,
are scattered throughout the building.

Exploring Deserted Catholic School
An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted Catholic school.
The school was founded in 1958 and moved into this building in 1968. It has been deserted since 2011
after moving to a campus and became a playground for graffiti artists. A chapel is located at the top
floor. Police claimed that they found explosive devices in May 2021, sealed off the building and
used it for drills occasionally.

Exploring Deserted Luxury Club House
An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted luxury club house.
Completed in 1979, the club house served the 200 units of a luxury resort. It included games
arcade, pool tables, projection TV, a library, restaurant areas, lounges, kitchens, sauna and
what was once the largest private pool in Hong Kong. Evidence of a fire is seen in part of the
building. Massive debt and years of legal wrangling led to the closure of its club house in the 1990s.

Exploring Deserted Century-old Village Houses
An avid urban explorer ventures into 3 deserted village houses.
Built in 1910-1920, the 3 Hakka village houses were constructed for the 3 sons of the family.
Each 2-storey house has a gross area of 500 sq ft with wooden stairs for access to the first floor.
The interior of the house on the left has completely collapsed and the roof of the 2 houses on the
left has partially fallen. They have been deserted since 2011. Furniture and personal items
including many ceramic bowls remain. It has been rated as a Grade III historic building.

Exploring Deserted Dinosaur-themed Restaurant
An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted restaurant.
The 2-storey restaurant is dinosaur-themed and has a skeleton of a Triceratops at the main
entrance and a Tyrannosaurus across. It was a Chinese cafe (cha chan teng) serving
Cantonese food. It has become deserted for a while. Furniture and some personal items

Colourful Wasp Moth
A vibrantly coloured group of moths, Wasp Moths are easy to mistake for real wasps. These
moths mimic the colouring of a stinging wasp to deter predators from trying to eat them.
Some Wasp Moths have opaque wings. Others transparent forewing like a true wasp.
Many of the caterpillars of this type of moth can do substantial damage to trees as they
bore into the wood. Adult Wasp Moths feed on pollen and nectar from flowers.

Exploring Deserted Qing-Dynasty-Era Ancestral Hall
An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted ancestral hall from the Qing Dynasty.
The ancestral hall located in the New Territories of Hong Kong was established in the 16th
century during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It is now dilapidated and has been
deserted since 1998. In 1995, it was rated as a Grade I historic building.
It was renovated in 1925, and a plaque was installed in the hall. It is a traditional building
with 3 entrances, 2 courtyards and 3 rooms. The foundation is of solid granite, the outer walls
are made of grey bricks, and the front porch has drum stands.

Jacaranda Blooming
Jacaranda mimosifolia is a sub-tropical tree native to south-central South America that
has been widely planted elsewhere because of its attractive and long-lasting
violet-colored flowers.
The tree grows to a height of up to 20 m (66 ft). The flowers are up to 5 cm (2 in) long, and are grouped
in 30 cm (12 in) panicles. They appear in spring and early summer, and last for up to two months.
These flowers are seen at Star Street in Wanchai.

There are over 100 buildings in the barracks which is located on top of a hill. Some of them
have a red fireplace and stairs leading to a second floor attic. The site has been deserted long
before the 1997 handover. The interior has been cleared with vines and bushes overgrown outside.

Historic Loke Yew Hall of HKU
The Main Building of The University of Hong Kong is the oldest structure on the campus, which
was donated to the university by Sir Hormusjee Nawrojee Mody, a well-known Indian Parsi
businessman and philanthropist. Construction of the building started in 1910 and was
completed in 1912. It is a Declared Monument.
Classical in style, this well-proportioned, three-storey red-brick building supported by granite
columns of the Ionic order is designed symmetrically around the central axis of the clock tower.

Exploring Deserted Near-Century-old Mansion
An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted mansion.
The 2-storey mansion, a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles comprising
a main
building and an annex block, is deserted and swallowed up by nature. Despite its colonial-style
characteristics in the walls, balcony and stone columns, the building has a traditional Chinese
pitched roof supported on wooden purlins and battens and is covered by Chinese clay tiles.
Another notable feature includes the courtyard, as well as the layout of the rooms, which resembles
that of traditional Chinese residences. Located in the middle of the roof parapet of the main
building is a semi-circular pediment engraved with the name of the mansion in Chinese.
One of the room is painted in red with red curtains over the passages to the next room.

The 2-storey mansion was built in about 1918. It blends Chinese and
Western architectural styles, reflecting the integration of both cultures
in the 1920s and 1930s. It is called "Chinese Renaissance" architecture.
The mansion, with a path behind leading to a tomb for the ancestors, provides
a resting place for descendants before and after grave sweeping.
It is now rated as a Grade I historic building.

Red-Base Jezebel Butterfly
The Red-base Jezebel (Delias pasithoe) is a common butterfly in Hong Kong. Its wings are
composed of four colours - black, white, yellow and red - which are colourful and
pleasing to the eye. They love to visit flowers to feed on their nectar, flying slowly.
Wing span is about 60 to 70 mm, visible throughout the year.
It is commonly found in Lai Chi Chong Geopark in Sai Kung.

Exploring Deserted Century-old Village Inn

The 2-storey village inn was built with grey bricks in the Qing Dynasty before 1899. It was
built in a simple and functional style but the main entrance is very special with an western-style
wrought-iron gate. The name of the inn is prominently displayed on the facade. Many furniture
and personal items are scattered throughout the building. The wooden stairs
leading to the first floor has partially collapsed.
The area used to be a very busy market hub for Hong Kong. The inn provided accommodation for
traveling traders from other localities. It was rated a Grade I historic building.

Exploring Deserted Historic Mansion from 1930s
An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted historic mansion.
Built upon between 1934-1937, the 2-storey high mansion has a very distinctive front
facade. During 1940s to 1950s, it was home to many left-wing intellectuals and artists,
including a very prominent Chinese painter. There was no water supply at the time
and residents drew water from a large slate well next to the house. It has been
abandoned since the 1990s and was rated as a Grade III historic building in 2010.

Century-old King Siu Sai Kui
King Siu Sai Kui (right) and Hau Fuk Mun are two houses in Pak Sha O Ha Yeung of Sai Kung,
which were built by Yung Sze-chiu respectively in 1918 and 1940. The former was the
residence of the Yungs and the latter a gatehouse. The village was established in 1811
by the Yungs from Guishan (now known as Huiyang) of Guangdong province.
The Yungs were farmers and they also took part in fishing and lime production.
