  Deserted Medieval Castle in= Italy

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted castle in Italy.

Rising on the mountain ridge, the castle was built in the medieval times (alleged in 1181)
as the fortified residence of a noble family. The majestic ruins of the castle that survived
the 1715 Genoese destruction still dominates over the medieval town. Built using diamond-
faceted squared stones. It is an excellent example of late medieval military architecture.

The castle was built in 1901-4 as part of a grand villa complex. At the entrance is a monumental
liberty style wrought iron gate. Just before WWI, the villa was passed to the Commander and
Grand Officer of the Kingdom. Between WWI and WWII, the villa rose to its maximum splendor
and hosted parties and public events: processions in costume parade (for example: wine festival),
Philharmonic music, etc. After the war, a long period of decline began for the villa and area.

Abandoned Restaurant with 2 Planes in Italy

An avid urban explorer ventures into a abandoned restaurant in Northern Italy.

This restaurant opened in 2000 as one of the most atmospheric diners in the world
because it was built inside 2 decommissioned aircraft: a Douglas DC-6 and a Tupolev
TU-134A with a helicopter and a control tower.

It was surrounded by frescoes and statues and on summer evenings you could enjoy the
coolness in the fantastic garden under the gigantic wings of the two airplanes. In 2014, after
ongoing legal battles with local government over zoning violations, it was shuttered for good.
The airplanes have been abandoned ever since. The plane's interiors are a bit dusty, empty
and litter-strewn, but the cockpit control panels remain mostly intact.

Deserted Grand Lakeside Villa in Italy

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted grand villa overlooking a gorgeous lake in Italy.

The villa was built and extended in various stages over the 19th Century on 60,000 sq m of land.
It is surrounded by a vast parkland which once contained greenhouses, caves, bridges, gazebos
stables and over 150 species of plants.

In addition to decades of looting and vandalism, the villa was hit by a vicious storm around
8 years ago. A large part of the villa has collapsed, including a tall medieval tower. The upper
floors are treacherous. The staircase is most striking. Colourful marble decorations grace the
walls. Traces of curtains still cling to the windows. It has been deserted since the 1950s.

Giant Pool at Deserted Disco in Italy

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted large disco/nightclub in Italy.

Built around 1928, the disco saw its heyday in the 50s and 60s. It hosted bands, even
entire orchestras and was frequented by illustrious guests. It had a huge hall with imposing
pillars, exquisitely frescoed ceilings and large windows that overlooked the garden outside.

There are 2 ballrooms, a giant swimming pool, tennis courts, bowling green and a fountain
that took your breath away for its beauty. It has hosted a Miss Italy contest.

Around 2007 it was taken over by a new owner, but after a couple of years it was
closed, deserted and left to decay. The chandelier has collapsed.

  Deserted Grand Villa in Italy

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted grand villa in Italy.

Built in the 19th century as the home of the richest man in Italy, the villa has a huge entrance
with imposing pillars, exquisitely frescoed ceilings and a beautiful hall. After his death in
1905 the family paid off all the debts, moved into another villa a few blocks away and
ignored the villa for a long time.

During WWII, Nazis raided the villa and after the war, there were still refugees living there,
followed by a large circus family. After that, another famous family lived there who
modernized the place and then abandoned to decay. It is in a sad state of disrepair
and partially collapsed. It becomes a favourite haunt for neighborhood kids.

Last Throes of Deserted Artist Mansion in Italy

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted artist's mansion in Italy.

There are little information concerning the background story of this mansion. It's said that
an artist lived here. The mansion appeared like a piece of art itself. There were numerous
paintings, easels, statues and numerous other utensils used for painting.

Today, the entire building was wrapped for "renovation". The interior rooms were propped up with
metal poles and the vast majority of the rooms are stripped of the gorgeous frescos and murals
on the walls and ceilings formerly. So unbelievably sad. Furniture and personal items are
 mostly cleared.

This photo is the only room that I can find that has not been stripped. I'm witnessing
the last throes of this once stunningly decorated and furnishe mansion.

  Deserted Haunted Villa in Italy

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted villa in Northern Italy.

The villa was built between 1854-1857 as the summer residence of Count Felix De Vecchi.
Vecchi was head of the Italian National Guard and a decorated hero following Milan’s liberation
from Austrian rule in 1848. The architect died a year before the villa was completed, and many
view his death as the first ill omen. Sometime in 1862 the Count returned home to find his wife
brutally murdered and daughter missing. The Count put out a lengthy, unsuccessful search
for his daughter, before committing suicide that same year.

Set within a 130,000-sq-m park, the grand villa boasted a blend of Baroque and Classical Eastern
styles, and was outfitted with all the modern conveniences of the time including indoor heating
pipes, dumbwaiters, and a large-scale pressurized fountain. The walls and ceilings were
decorated with painstakingly detailed frescoes and friezes, and a huge fireplace is in the
main parlor with a grand piano which is now in shambles. Extensive gardens and
promenades rounded out the already picturesque surroundings. Graffiti covers the walls.

The grand piano was said to be played at night by a ghostly entity, though some locals claim
that music can still be heard coming from the house. A small side room features a sewing
machine on a table. The rooms to the rear have collapsed.
