Deserted Mansion from 1930s in Taiwan
An avid urban explorer ventures into an deserted mansion.
Built in the 1930s, the house was built by a wealthy man of the Tsai family who owned a mine
nearby. There is a balcony on the first floor supported by arches. According to the sign by
the gate many descendants have migrated out of the area and the house is in the care of
Mr Tsai's grandson. Apparently, there was a fire and the main hall and the roof have
collasped partially.

Mysterious Deserted Hindu Temple
An avid urban explorer ventures into deserted Hindu temple in Hong Kong.
The deserted Hindu Temple was completed in the 1960s and was built by Nepalese Gurkhas soldiers
stationed at the camp to worship Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction. After 1996, the Gurkhas left,
and the Hindu temple was deserted. In 2010, it was rated as a Grade III historical building.
The temple is a gray-greenish hexagonal building with 6 spires on top, which is crown-shaped, symbolising
a lotus flower that is regarded as a beautiful and sacred in Hinduism. It is the only lotus-shaped building
in Hong Kong, rare and unique. The building is surrounded with bushes and no decoration is left in the
temple. Each of the 6 sides has a portal, except the southeast side, with a small yellow window above
the door. The interior of the building is painted red and green, with a mysterious atmosphere.

Vivian Explores Deserted Hakka Mansion from 1930s
Vivian, a banker with a major international bank and an avid urban explorer, ventures into a
deserted Hakka mansion.
An elegant traditional Hakka mansion, hidden behind bushes, has been long deserted, with bushes
growing in front of the house. Built in 1932, the mansion is typical of the Hakka 'two-halls
two-horizontal' residential building in Mei County, Guangdong. It is the only
single
residential building in Hong Kong listed as a Grade I historic building.
The exquisite lion carvings on both sides of the gate beam have been removed. The half-moon-shaped
fengshui pond in front of the house has been overrun by reeds and
weeds, and the eaves are dilapidated and in
disrepair.
The whole mansion has 16 rooms, 6 halls and two inner courtyards. The halls form the central
axis of the house, with rooms on either side, including bedrooms and kitchens. The
courtyards has a pond each, and the wooden doors of the rooms are exquisitely carved.
Both design and colour
are tasteful. Since it has been abandoned for many years,
most of the furniture are gone.

vine branches radiate in all directions, criss-crossing, and some of them span the mountain path
like cables, looking very spectacular. Therfore, it is called the King of Vine Creepers by hikers.

From Sea of Candles at June 4 Vigil to Zero Candle
Vanishing Freedoms in Hong Kong
On June 4, 2023, zero candle can be lit at Victoria Park, bearing witness to the vanishing
freedoms in Hong Kong.
For over 3 decades, tens of thousands have gathered annually on June 4 in Hong Kong's
Victoria Park, lighting candles and singing songs to commemorate the victims of the bloody
1989 massacre on pro-democracy protesters in Beijing's Tiananmen Square. Organisers said
110,000-180,000 participated in the vigil each year between 2013-2019 peaking on the 30th anniversary.
But the tradition is vanishing in Hong Kong after the police banned the annual vigil starting 2020,
citing pandemic-related prevention measures and the National Security Law.
On June 4, 2023, 5-6,000 police and police vans have been deployed near Victoria Park and Causeway
Bay. Police have warned that anyone participating in an unauthorised assembly risks up to 5 years
in prison, as Victoria Park is closed ahead of Sunday's Tiananmen crackdown
anniversary. The park in Causeway Bay has traditionally been the site of commemorative
candlelit vigils to remember the 1989 dead.
180,000 Hong Kong people attended the 2019's 30th anniversary vigil, gathering in
Victoria Park and lighting candles, a great contrast with the empty grounds in 2021 and 2022.
The Pillar of Shame, an installation commorating the Tiananmen Massacre at the
University of Hong Kong has been summarily removed and later impounded by the police,
under protest by the Danish artist.
Although the sea of candles in Victoria Park is no longer there, and June 4 has become a
sensitive word for the new Hong Kong, the candlelight in our hearts is still there. The
more the regime wants to silence us, the more we will continue to tell the story of that night
34 years ago. Let us continue to record instead of forgetting.
"Banning the vigils fits with the claim many are making that 'One Country, Two Systems' has
now become 'One Country, One System,' with fewer and fewer political markers of difference
between the two former colonies and [mainland China]," said Jeff Wasserstrom, a
historian of modern China at the University of California in Irvine.
