2 Days to 2nd Anni of Umbrella Movement

Occupy Protesters raised a giant banner reading: 'We vow to be back' as Admiralty
Occupy zone was cleared by bailiffs and police on Thursday. 7,000 police was
deployed and the clearing was done in about 12 hours. Traffic on Harcourt
Road was restored after over 2 months of Occupy.

The clearing went smoothly as both protesters and police showed restraint with
no confrontation. 15 pan-democrat legislators, Next Publications chairman
Jimmy Lai and student leader Nathan Law were among the 249 arrested including
Uncle Wong who is 90 year-old.

Prominant protesters are now back as newly elected legislators such as
Nathan Law Kwu-chung, Eddie Chu Hoi-dick, Lau Siu-lai, Leung chung-hang...
who will continue to fight for democracy.

3 Days to 2nd Anni of Umbrella Movement

A protester with a yellow umbrella ponders where she will go next when there is
no light at the end of the tunnel, reflecting the current state of affairs for
Hong Kong since December 15, 2014, after 79 days of Umbrella Movement when
hundreds of thousands occupied the streets of Hong Kong to demand human
rights including democracy and genuine universal suffrage.

The United Nations Human Rights Committee expressed concern that the demand
of the Hong Kong people, enshrined in the International Covenant on Civil and
Political Rights (a landmark treaty signed by China in 1998) has not been met.

This image, titled 'What Next for Hong Kong', is the winner of Hong Kong
Justice Centre Choice Award of the 2015 Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize.
It was exhibited at The Fringe Club Gallery on 4-10 December 2015.

5 Days to 2nd Anni of Umbrella Movement

A week before the start of Umbrella Movement in 2014, 13,000 students from 25
tertiary institutions across Hong Kong and their supporters gather at Chinese
University to kick off Hong Kong's most massive ever week-long class boycott
to protest against Beijing’s highly restrictive framework on the 2017 chief
executive election. High school students joined the boycott on 26 September.

The number of participants at the mass rally far exceeds those for the
campaign against patriotic national education programme in high
schools two years ago at the same location.

The peaceful and unarmed protesters were undaunted and regrouped
quickly even after tens of tear gas canisters were fired at them.
Their only protestion were makeshift masks and plastic wraps,
wielding umbrellas. Thus, 'Umbrella Movement' was born.

The streets of Hong Kong on the night of 28 September 2016 resembled
a battlefield, with police in full riot gear and gas masks firing
87 rouds of tear gas canisters on unarmed students and citizens.

Countdown to 2nd Anni of Umbrella Movement

On 28 Sep 2014, tens of thousands of Hong Kong citizens who want to reach
Occupy Central, the civil disobedience movement for genuine suffrage, at
government headquarters at Admiralty were blocked by the police. They
took to the street and occupy the 6-lane highway between the MTR
(subway) station and the government offices.

The streets of Hong Kong on Sunday night resemble a battleground, with
police in full riot gear and gas masks firing tear gas on students and
citizens wearing makeshift masks wielding umbrellas, in the worst
clashes between police and demonstrators since the 2005 WTO protests.

87 rounds of tear gas canisters were fired at the unarmed and generally
peaceful protesters indiscriminately and are totally unwarranted.
