  Struggling to Survive

C (not her real name), is a school teacher escaping violence
from a small town in Uganda. She has been waiting for 7 years,
almost in limbo, while seeking asylum in Hong Kong, one of the
 world’s most expensive cities.

C struggles to survive in her tiny 80-sq-ft “shoebox home”
cramped with all her belongings over her bed. She has to
climb up and down 7 flights of stairs without a lift in an
old dilapidated building in a crumbling neighbourhood to
keep down her rent, which is still double the HK$1,500
(US$190) a month for housing from the government.
