Zen

Trupti, from Mumbai, enjoys a zen moment in the midst of thousands of domestic
workers chattering at Victoria Park on Sunday, their weekly day-off.

Zen is a total state of focus that incorporates a total togetherness of body
and mind. Zen is a way of being. It also is a state of mind.

Subway West Extension Opens in Hong Kong

23 year-old Ady Lin, a recent graduate of risk management at University of Hong Kong
(HKU), takes advantage of the Sunday opening of the West Island Line Extension of
the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) which brings the subway to Kennedy Town in Western
Disrict with a stop at HKU.

The opening of the MTR extension had driven rents up in the neighbourhood. Many small
and traditional businesses have been forced out. Long queues are common on the subway
with the increased ridership, even on a Sunday.

the 'yarn bomber' covered the poles and chains with knitted wollen Santas.

Yarn bombing (aka yarn storming, guerrilla knitting, kniffiti, urban knitting
or graffiti knitting) is a type of graffiti or street art that employs
colourful displays of knitted yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk.
Magda Sayeg, 37, from Houston, started this movement in 2005.

Chedi Luang of Chiang Mai

Wat Chedi Luang (temple of the big stupa) is a Buddhist temple in the old town
of Chiang Mai, Thailand. The construction of the temple started in the 14th
century and finished in the mid-15th century. It was then 82 m high and had
a base diameter of 54 m, at that time the largest building of all Lanna,
a kingdom centred in present-day northern Thailand from the 13th to
18th centuries.

Golden Umbrella of Doi Suthep

A golden umbrella stands next to the golden chedi of the sacred Wat Phra That
Doi Suthep, built in 1383 to house a miraculous Buddha relic that was carried
by a white elephant which wondered the mountain until its death at this spot,
interpreted as the 'chosen' location for the temple.

The chedi is topped by a five-tiered umbrella in honour of the city's union
with Thailand after independence from Myanmar. This appears to be the
appropriate site to ask for blessing on Umbrella movement in Hong Kong.

The temple is 16 km northwest of Chiang Mai, reached by a strenuous 306-step
staircase intended as an act of meditation. It is part of the Doi Suthep-Pui
National Park which includes the sacred peaks of Doi Suthep (1676 m) and
Doi Pui (1685 m).

What's Next for Hong Kong?

A protester with a yellow umbrella ponders where she will go next when there is
no light at the end of the tunnel, mirroring the current state of affair for
Hong Kong as the last Occupy zone in Causeway Bay was cleared on 15 December
after 79 days of Umbrella Movement.

"We'll be back" is the message to the government who had yet to make any concession
towards meeting the demands of the protesters.

Unrepentent Uncle Wong at Last Occupy Site

90 year-old Uncle Wong, arrested at both the Admiralty and Causeway Bay Occupy
zone clearing, is unrepentent and still goes to support protesters at the last
Occupy site on the pedestrian pavement outside Hong Kong government headquarters
on Tim Mei Avenue. There are about 70 tents which have been moved from the
Legislative Council protest area after being cleared on 15 December.

"CY Leung hasn't responded to our demands, even though hundreds of thousands of
us have been sitting here for several months," said Wong. "He has totally
ignored us, so we still want answers from him. I want to stay in jail if
I can, to force him to pay for my keep."

Final Occupy Site at Causeway Bay Cleared

One of the last 17 protesters arrested was still carrying a yellow umbrella and
shouting 'I want real universal suffrage'. Police cleared the final Occupy zone
at Causeway Bay in about 2 hours Monday morning. Among the arrested are legislator
Chan Ka-lok, 90 and 78 year-old Uncle Wong and Uncle Ng.

Government declared the 'end of Occupy' but there are plenty of signs that say
'we will be back'. This may be the end of Occupy but the Umbrella Movement
appears to be blooming all over the city as the government had not moved
an iota towards meeting the demands of the protesters.

One of the unforeseen casualties at the first Colour Run in Hong Kong is the
camera of this photographer. My camera is totally covered with pink powder
that the organiser dumped over my head when I went up the stage to take a

Fortunately, my Canon camera is still operational. Bravo, Canon!

Joshua Wong, one of the key student leaders of Umbrella Movement, started
a hunger strike with two other teenage Scholarism students to ask for a

universal suffrage Monday night.

The hunger strikers had swelled to five but Lo Yin Wai (second from left),
one of the original three, had to back out last night on doctor's advice
due to health deterioration. Leung rejected the calls saying there is no
basis for a diaglogue.
