President Theatre Being Demolished

President Theatre in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong has shut down on 30 April, after
operating in the city for more than half a century. The announcement came
less than a week after GH Kai Tak under Golden Harvest went out of business.

The Theatre opened in October 1966. It is being demolished quickly and the
seats have been totally removed. Hong Kong’s cinema market 'remains stuck
far below pre-pandemic levels,' the Hong Kong Trade Development Council
(HKTDC) wrote in an industry report released in March.

Fleet Arcade Being Demolished

Hong Kong's Fleet Arcade and Fenwick Pier is being demolished after serving
foreign navy ships and sailors for decades. It was closed on 11 February 2022.
Owned by the non-profit Servicemen's Guides Association (SGA), the city's
only American navy pier was built in 1970 on what was once the harbourfront
in the Wan Chai district. After 1 July 1997, the government asked the SGA
to serve all foreign military ships.

In 1994, Fleet Arcade, a shopping centre, was opened there, helping
foreign sailors with hospitality bookings, questions about Hong Kong
and other services. The building is now being demolished to make way
for a fire station.

Deserted Luxury Hotel from 1950s

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted luxury hotel.

Built in the 1956, the luxury complex consisted of a hotel, motel, thirteen villas,
restaurant, nightclub, tennis courts and artificial lakes on a site of 100 hectares.

a military coup that overthrew the authoritarian government on 25 April 1974,
it was occupied by the revolutionary groups and its content looted.

In 1999, the owner died and it became deserted. It became a popular site for wargamers
and street artists who painted graffiti on practically all the walls.

the upper floors. One of the rooms is painted in green colour.

Sajina Dances for One Billion Rising

Sajina from Darjeeling, India joins hundreds on Chater Road in Central
dancing on the 11th Anniversary of One Billion Rising, a global movement
and the biggest mass action to end violence against women (cisgender,
transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-
based violence) in human history.

The campaign, which launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to
action based on the staggering statistics that 1 in 3 women on the planet
will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population
at 7 billion, this adds up to more than 1 billion women.

Deserted Theatre from 1870s

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted theatre.

The 4-storey theatre was built between 1877-1884 on the site of a ruined church.
In 1937, it was remodelled by the architect Amílcar da Silva Pinto in 'radical
modernism' style, with the facade dominated by the dynamic curve of the central
cylinder that imposed a new verticality to the space. Both outside and inside,
there is a clear influence of art deco, especially in lighting and decoration.

It was closed in 1999. On March 10, 2007 , the building was partially burned
down, with the interior decoration being irreparably lost. However, the
concrete structure and the facade remained.

Deserted Unfinished Water Park

An avid urban explorer ventures into a deserted water park.

Construction of the water park started in 2008. Later, some financial irregularities
were discovered causing construction to stop in 2014. Apparently 25 million
Euro had already been spent. The owners still seem to think it's going to be
finished one day, but it seems to be falling into disrepair.

It's a massive project, but the problem could be its location, which is far away
from anywhere that is popular for tourism. Who is going to visit this
enormous water park in the middle of the countryside?
