About 10,000 Bay Area residents, according to protest organizer Snebal Shingavi, came out
in force and joined in the Anti-War Rally and March despite the cold and drizzle in the morning.
It was an eclectic crowd that included the Raging Grannies, the colorful Extra Action Marching Band,
the Gray Panthers, The World Can't Wait organization which pushes for impeachment, various political
activists and families with small kids, some in strollers. They marched down Market Street, the main
thoroughfare of downtown San Francisco, cheered on by passers-by.
This is part of a nationwide protest against Bush's plan to send an additional 21,5000 U.S. troops to the war
in Iraq. Tens of thousands of protesters converged on the National Mall in D.C. Similar protests were held in other
major cities.
The event was organized by a coalition of anti-war organizations.
